Success Stories
Our partnership with Beacon Charitable Pharmacy not only expanded the pharmacy's reach into uninsured and underinsured populations, it landed Beacon Charitable Pharmacy with public recognition of its contributions to the evidence base for COVID-19 community interventions. Beacon worked with its local health departments, community and faith-based organizations, and small businesses to increase awareness of COVID-19 and flu vaccination facts and build trust with communities at highest risk. The addition of a pharmacy van increased opportunities to conduct outreach and enrollment in rural areas. Beacon has increased its national and state profiles and received several accolades for its work.
After partnering with MaryCatherine Jones Consulting on a competitive grant application, the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics and Project Hope developed new opportunities for staff and volunteers at Free and Charitable Clinics and Pharmacies to attend provider mental health and resiliency training. Open to volunteers, paid staff, and community partner organizations, the in-person courses addressed the effects of the pandemic on provider burnout and trauma and identified effective coping strategies. Following a "cascade" model, course participants then trained others in their clinics and communities on resiliency for frontline workers.
SafeNetRx aimed to learn about the challenges faced by Free and Charitable Clinics and Pharmacies in accessing prescription drugs for their patients. MaryCatherine Jones Consulting and SafeNetRx conducted a comprehensive assessment, reviewing research on uninsured populations and interviewing national and local organizations, independent pharmacies, and Free and Charitable Clinics and Pharmacies across the country. We then used the findings to plan operations and strategies to improve the quality of charitable drug distribution among safety net clinics and partners.
MaryCatherine Jones Consulting worked with charitable clinic Midvale CBC to develop community-health worker (CHW) project on hypertension control and prepare a competitive funding request to the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors. Not only was Midvale CBC one of only six out of over 100 applicants to receive the award, it was the only free or charitable clinic to receive funding through the project. The CBC ultimately received an award from the National Hypertension Roundtable for innovative approaches in identifying and treating hypertension within its low income, uninsured Hispanic community in Utah.
