National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics

The NAFC Quality Standards Program is a set of standards formalized by the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics to quantify and qualify the care provided by member organizations, showcasing quality care to stakeholders and helping members enhance patient care.

National Council of Nonprofits

A plain-language overview of the three core fiduciary duties and the foundational responsibilities of nonprofit board members. Excellent starting point for new board members unfamiliar with nonprofit governance or legal expectations.

North Carolina Center for Nonprofits

A comprehensive but accessible pdf guide explaining board roles, fiduciary duties, committee structure, financial oversight and board/CEO partnership dynamics.

Chronicle of Philanthropy

This handout from The Chronicle of Philanthropy provides practical tips for strengthening board engagement and improving communication between staff and board members. Topics include setting clear expectations, building trust, and supporting effective governance. It can be a useful supplement to board orientation and ongoing board development.

Gulf Coast Community Foundation

A curated library of downloadable tools including board self-assessment forms, board member agreements, conflict of interest policies, ethics policies, and governance worksheets. Useful for clinics formalizing governance practices.

Florida Nonprofit Alliance

A practical checklist summarizing key legal and regulatory requirements for Florida nonprofits, including governance, financial reporting, and charitable solicitation compliance. 

A fee is required for non-FNA members.

Tennessee Nonprofit Network

This handbook from the Tennessee Nonprofit Network outlines the core responsibilities of nonprofit board members, including legal duties, governance roles, financial oversight, and fundraising expectations. It is a useful reference for board orientation and ongoing board education.
